French State Collection of T'ang Haywen at Artcurial

The 1st sale

The French State, who owns an important group of works by T'ang Haywen, called upon Philippe Koutouzis and T'ang Haywen Archives to authenticate the works in its collection. More than a year of work was necessary, in collaboration with the French administration of the state domains (D.N.I.D), to inventory this collection and to organize its marketing with Artcurial.

On 5th April, the first part of a series of auctions, Artcurial's Post-War & Contemporary department will offer 50 abstract and figurative works by the French-Chinese artist T'ang Haywen, ranging from 1955 to 1990. Inks, watercolors and gouaches in the form of single works, diptychs and triptychs will enable the public to discover the artist's universe.

T'ang Haywen's works are now in major collections such as the Menil Collection in Houston, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris and the Musée des arts asiatiques Guimet, as well as the M+ Museum in Hong Kong.

In 2024, a retrospective exhibition of more than 200 works from the French state collection will be held at the Musée Guimet in Paris.
